Toyota Recalls 8 Models for Faulty Fuel Pumps

The fuel pump, often described as a vehicle's "heart," has become the center of a major safety concern. Toyota Motor Corporation has officially filed a recall notice with Japan's Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, Transport and Tourism, affecting eight models including the Alphard and Camry. A total of 54,577 vehicles manufactured between July 2017 and September 2019 are involved in the recall.

According to regulatory filings, the recall stems from a design flaw in the fuel pumps produced by automotive supplier Denso. The problematic component—a resin impeller inside the fuel pump—may deform over time, gradually reducing fuel delivery capacity. In worst-case scenarios, this defect could cause sudden engine stalling while driving, posing significant safety risks.

This marks the latest development in an ongoing safety crisis surrounding Denso's fuel pumps. Since March 2020, eight Japanese automakers have recalled approximately 4.36 million vehicles due to similar issues, making this one of the most widespread component failures in recent automotive history.

Toyota has established a dedicated customer service line (0800·700·7700) to address owner inquiries and coordinate repair procedures. The recall serves as a stark reminder of how critical component quality can impact vehicle safety on a massive scale.
